2010 TCA Annual Conference and call for papers
The Texas Classical Association is pleased to welcome its members to the campus of the University of Texas at Austin for the annual fall conference, November 5-6, 2010. The sessions will be held on the UT campus beginning Friday afternoon in Waggener Hall with a lecture by our keynote speaker, Mary Pendergraft, Professor of Classical Languages at Wake Forest University and Chief Reader for the AP Latin exam. Friday's lecture will focus on the connections among Austin, Greensboro, O. Henry, and the Classics. The evening's entertainment will include dinner at Santa Rita Tex-Mex Cantina and a reading at Dr. David Armstrong's house.
On Friday, you may also want to consider making time for a visit to the O. Henry Museum, located at 409 East 5th Street. The museum is open from noon to 5 p.m., and admission is free. In addition to metered downtown parking, parking is available in the garages at the Hilton Hotel and Austin Convention Center. More information about the museum can be found at: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/ohenry/default.htm
Saturday's sessions will be held at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center. The conference program includes a wide variety of talks of interest to Classicists in the areas of research, pedagogy and technology. Mary Pendergraft will again be addressing the group on Saturday afternoon with information about the new AP Latin syllabus. This year's conference cost will cover breakfast and lunch on Saturday in addition to parking (pending availability) at the conference center.
We look forward to seeing everyone in Austin!
